What is Confirmation?

Just as Baptism gives new life, Eucharist nourishes life, and Reconciliation restores life when it is broken, Confirmation strengthens that life by the gifts of the Holy Spirit. It is about strengthening what God has given, and continues to give, to his sons and daughters. 
 

In the Sacrament of Confirmation, the Holy Spirit completes the grace of baptism and offers the newly confirmed strength as a true witness of Christ. Thus, the newly confirmed is “more strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith by word and deed”.
 

What is required before Confirmation?

Confirmation Preparation should be part of the ongoing faith formation from Baptism.... But we see that not many of those who received FHC continue their faith journey.

 

 

So, all the teenagers in years 8, 9 & 10 who wish to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation are invited to join our Youth Club called The Lions.

 

The Preparation will start in Year 8 and will carry on through year 9 and possibly 10.

 

The decision to receive the Sacrament must be done after much prayer and discernment, so the preparation will entail prayer, participation in the Lions Group, and ministry (involvement in our parish life) and a retreat weekend.

 

Age wise, we offer a flexible and individual approach in the preparation....

We will help the candidates make a decision whilst seeing their faith in action and commitment... This decision must come from them, not from pressure from others, they will be ready when THEY are ready and not necessarily at the same time as their friends  or peer group... perhaps sooner...perhaps later

 

The Youth Club, for this year group, called The Lions will have the following stages of preparation: 
Stage 1: EVANGELISATION PERIOD             Stage 2: FORMATION PERIOD                        STAGE 3: TIME FOR ACTION.

Confirmation preparation involves learning, sharing, serving, fellowship, spiritual growth and fun through the Lions club! You will be given the opportunity to learn more about your Catholic faith and what it means to be a disciple of Jesus Christ.

 

The Lions Club starts this September!
